On March 12, an official representative from TOEFL visited SSI Daechi to host an information session for both students and parents. The event was designed to provide students with guidance in preparing for university admissions with accurate and up-to-date information about the TOEFL, while also helping parents to better understand and support their children’s academic direction.
One of the main topics of the session was the recent TOEFL updates. The representative explained that these changes go beyond a simple format revision and instead reflect a broader shift toward a more test-taker-friendly exam. The updated test includes culturally neutral topics and materials to promote fairness, along with question types that better reflect real-world situations. Score reporting has also been significantly sped up, with final scores available within three days, and the registration and testing process has been streamlined to reduce the burden on students.
The scoring system has also changed significantly. The traditional 0–120 scale has been replaced by a 1–6 band scale, making scores easier to interpret and more closely aligned with the CEFR. The Reading and Listening sections have also adopted a multistage adaptive format, in which the difficulty of the second stage is determined by performance in the first stage, allowing the test to measure proficiency more precisely.
During the Q&A session, parents asked thoughtful and practical questions. The representative covered topics such as score validity and how TOEFL scores are submitted to overseas universities, making the session especially useful.
As students enter an important stage in planning for the future, the session gave both students and parents clearer guidance for the road ahead. SSI Daechi will continue to support students through programs that strengthen academic readiness and English proficiency.
