On September 3, 2026, at 3:30 PM, Seoul Scholars International (SSI) hosted its New Family Orientation for parents of incoming students. The event introduced families to SSI’s academic guidelines, student counseling system, college preparation programs, and digital learning platforms, helping parents better understand the resources available to support their children’s academic journey.
Introducing SSI’s Student Counseling and College Preparation Programs
During the orientation, College Counselor Linda introduced SSI’s student counseling system and grade-specific college preparation programs.
SSI conducts four individual counseling sessions per year to review students’ academic progress and goals while providing guidance on course selection and academic planning. In addition, semester-based Parent-Counselor Conferences allow parents and counselors to discuss students’ progress and identify areas where additional support may be needed.
The session also introduced SSI’s AP Readiness Report and College Readiness Report, along with career exploration resources and seminars designed to help students and parents prepare for future academic and college goals.
Through this overview, parents gained a clearer understanding of how SSI supports students at different stages of their academic journey.
How Do Canvas and Alma Support Students and Parents?
Another key part of the orientation focused on Canvas and Alma, two digital platforms used to manage and access academic information.
Canvas is an online learning platform where students and parents can access course materials, assignments, and announcements. Alma is an academic management platform that provides access to schedules, attendance records, and report cards.
During the session, parents received guidance on how to log in to each platform and access relevant information about their children’s academic progress.
What Questions Did Parents Ask During the Orientation?
The orientation concluded with a Q&A session, giving parents an opportunity to ask questions about the information presented.
Many of the questions focused on how to use Canvas and Alma, reflecting parents’ interest in accessing academic information and becoming familiar with the platforms their children will use throughout the year.
The discussion provided an opportunity for parents to clarify questions about using these digital tools.
Building a Strong Partnership Between SSI and Families
The New Family Orientation provided incoming families with an overview of SSI’s academic expectations, counseling resources, and communication tools.
By introducing these support systems, SSI aimed to help parents feel more informed and prepared as their children begin a new academic chapter.
SSI looks forward to working closely with students and families, fostering communication among parents, counselors, and teachers to support each student’s academic growth and future goals.
We warmly welcome all incoming students and families to the SSI community!
