We are proud to highlight the achievement of Sikhyun Oh(11), who recently earned outstanding results in Fact-Checking Competition.
His participation began with a simple recommendation from a friend, who encouraged him to explore opportunities that could support his growth and experience. What started as curiosity became a meaningful journey of learning and critical thinking.
For the competition, Sikhyun worked independently, diving into research on paper straws. He examined various sources, compared information, and checked facts with care. One of the biggest challenges he faced was questioning the common belief that paper straws are always eco-friendly. Since this idea is widely accepted, challenging it required deeper research, persistence, and an open mind. By exploring multiple sources and uncovering lesser-known facts, he strengthened his understanding of the issue.
During the preparation process, chocolate was his go-to snack—providing a small moment of comfort while he continued his work.
Through this experience, Sikhyun learned an important lesson: products that appear environmentally friendly are not always the true solution. He discovered that the issue behind paper straws is more complex than it seems, and real sustainability requires looking beyond surface-level ideas.
When asked about his “secret weapon,” Sikhyun simply shared that he didn’t have one—just steady effort and honest curiosity. And when he heard the final results, he was genuinely surprised, having not expected to win.
Sikhyun Oh’s achievement reflects his willingness to question assumptions, explore deeply, and approach environmental issues with thoughtful inquiry. We are excited to see how his curiosity and dedication will continue to shape his future growth.
