On September 3, 2025, Seoul Scholars International welcomed Ms. Olivia Harris, who presented students with valuable insight into Northeastern University and its unique opportunities.

 

Ms. Harris highlighted Northeastern’s renowned advantages: experiential learning through its strong co-op program and a vibrant global community across 13 campuses in the U.S., U.K., and Canada. The Boston campus, located in one of the most education-focused urban areas in the world, offers access to a network of 35 surrounding institutions, including Boston University, Boston College, Brandeis University, Emerson College, and Harvard University. As one of the oldest and largest universities in the area, Northeastern provides students with a rich academic and cultural environment. She also discussed the Oakland campus, which benefits from its proximity to Silicon Valley and is just 45 minutes from San Francisco, offering unparalleled connections to the tech industry. Other unique opportunities include the London Scholars and NU in programs, which allow students to begin their studies abroad.

 

A key focus of the presentation was Northeastern’s co-op program, which gives students the opportunity to work full-time for six months, replacing an academic semester. With partnerships ranging from nonprofits and government agencies to biotech firms, law offices, and global corporations, students gain meaningful real-world experience. Impressively, 97% of Northeastern students participate in at least one co-op, and 51% receive job offers upon graduation. Importantly, international students are fully eligible for these opportunities.

 

Ms. Harris also shared that Northeastern offers over 300 majors and 190 combined majors, encouraging interdisciplinary study such as design and engineering. Students may also pursue the +1 Program, adding a year of study to graduate with a master’s degree. Finally, she provided insight into the admissions process and required application materials, giving SSI students a clearer path to pursuing their future at Northeastern.
