There was a special seminar for parents of 11th-grade students who are preparing for the upcoming college application process. Our college counselor, Ms. Linda, provided valuable insights and guidance on navigating the path to successful college admissions.
First, she addressed common myths and realities of college admissions. She explained what “test-optional” truly means, clarified which colleges follow a test-optional policy and which do not, and discussed how students should prepare depending on each college’s requirements. She also explained the concept of Early Decision(ED), noting that not all universities offer ED and that it is not always the best option for every student. Instead, she discussed when applying through Early Decision can actually be advantageous.
Second, she introduced the college application timeline and checklist. This part of the seminar outlined the overall preparation process starting from February and provided a clear roadmap for students and parents to follow. It also highlighted key factors that influence college admissions and offered guidance on how students can make the most of their summer vacation as they prepare for applications.
Finally, she explained the roles of students, SSI, and parents throughout the college admissions journey by sharing how SSI’s college counseling program supports students. Counselors help students generate ideas for extracurricular activities and essay topics, provide recommended college lists, and offer strategic advice on selecting the right colleges to apply to. In addition, they guide students through the entire application process, including essay support, Common App review, and interview preparation.
The seminar provided parents with a clearer understanding of the college admissions process and how to best support their children during this important stage. SSI will continue to guide and support students and families as they prepare for their future college journeys.
