During the recent college visit session, we were provided with an in-depth look at the University of Southern California (USC) and the various opportunities it offers students. USC is renowned for its academic rigor, vibrant campus life, and strong alumni network. Below are some key highlights from the session.
Academics
-Small class sizes with a student-to-faculty ratio of 9:1.
-21,000 undergraduate students enrolled.
-Average class size is 26+ students.
-Interdisciplinary Studies
-Offers 180 majors and 240 minors.
-Flexible curriculum allowing easy changes in majors
-Open course curriculum available.
Research and Job Opportunities
-Over 180 research-related activities available.
-Options for both STEM and non-STEM fields.
-Programs like SURF and SOAR provide additional research opportunities.
-Up to 85% of students complete 2-3 internships before graduation.
Campus Life
-Living on campus is not mandatory but is guaranteed for the first 1-2 years.

Admissions Process
-Early Action (EA): November 1.
-Regular Decision (RD): December 1 (for portfolio-based programs) and January 15 for other programs.
Remember that decisions are not based solely on numbers. Territory managers consider the candidate’s school and community.
-Academic Records: Review of total GPA and individual semester GPAs, Course selection is matched to the intended major
-Qualitative Components: Activity Summary Includes both school and off-campus activities. Explain why you chose these activities, why you joined specific clubs, and why you continue to participate in them.
-Essays:
1. Personal Essay: Remember this is a college essay, so include a challenging situation you faced in school or your community, and your next steps you took after then.
2. Short Essay (Why USC?): Show your knowledge of USC. Make sure not to mention a different school name by mistake.
3. Quick Takes (Fun/Random Questions): These are not considered in the admissions decision but help the admissions team get to know you better.
4. Department Supplements: Required for certain majors that need additional materials, such as portfolios.
