2024 SSI College Visit – Singapore Management University

On Thursday, August 29th, our students had the opportunity to learn about Singapore Management University (SMU) during an informative session led by an admissions representative, Mr. Jeffrey Ang, from the university. The visit was part of our ongoing efforts to provide students with insights into global educational opportunities.
SMU, the youngest of Singapore’s public universities, was highlighted for its modern approach to higher education. The representative emphasized that SMU’s contemporary outlook makes it particularly well-suited to address the rapidly evolving challenges of today’s world. He pointed out the university’s prime location in the Central Business District (CBD) of Singapore, within walking distance of major subway stations and surrounded by the headquarters of leading Singaporean corporations.
One of the distinctive features of SMU is its mandatory Global Exchange Program, which allows students to gain international experience. Additionally, the university requires all students to complete at least one internship before graduation, ensuring that they gain practical, real-world experience in their field of study.
As a specialized institution, SMU offers degree programs primarily in information technology, business management, and law. It does not, however, offer degrees in the life and physical sciences. This focus allows SMU to deliver a deeply specialized education tailored to the needs of these industries.
The visit was an eye-opening experience for many students, giving them a glimpse into the dynamic and internationally connected educational environment that SMU offers.
