The College Counselors, acts as a resource for families at every stage of the college application process. The goal of the College Counseling Office is to work closely with students and encourage them to discover their interests, explore possibilities, and take ownership of their college application process. Ultimately, we seek to support students in their effort to identify and enroll in the college that is the best fit for them.

The college counseling services available to each student vary depending on his/her enrollment status. All SSI students are provided access to college counseling presentations and workshops, and are encouraged to use the office as a resource throughout the college search, application, and selection process. The College Counseling Office also offers a college counseling course in the spring for SSI diploma candidates which covers key aspects of the application process and prepares students for work on their college applications.

For diploma candidates, the College Counseling Office acts as the main point of contact between the students and their prospective colleges. Diploma candidates are provided access to Naviance, a college application management program. All official school documents, including school reports, letters of recommendation, and transcripts are sent to colleges through Naviance by the College Counseling Office.

SSI students attend diverse and reputable institutions both in the United States and abroad, ranging from small private liberal arts colleges to large public universities. They have been successful in the college application process, and the College Counseling Office seeks to support them in this endeavor.[:ko][gap height=”30″]

College Counselor는 SSI 학생들이 대학원서를 작성할 때 가장 가까이에서 도움을 주는 선생님입니다. College Counseling Office에서 근무하는 선생님들은 학생들과 밀접한 관계를 유지하면서 자신의 흥미를 찾고, 잠재된 가능성을 발견할 수 있도록 지도합니다. 이를 통해 학생들은 자신이 입학하고자 하는 대학과 전공 등을 스스로 선택할 수 있으며 목표를 세우고 진취적으로 움직이는 사람으로 성장할 수 있을 것입니다. College Counseling에서 제공하는 workshops, counseling presentations 등에는 SSI 모든 학생들이 참여할 수 있으며 학생이 몇 학년인지에 따라 Counseling 주제가 달라집니다.

대학입시 준비에 여유가 있는 9~10학년들의 경우에는 자신의 적성을 파악하고 목표 대학을 스스로 선정할 수 있도록 지도합니다. 또한 시간적 여유가 있는 만큼 학점 이외의 봉사활동, 인턴십, 클럽활동 등 다양한 외부 활동에 참여하도록 독려함으로써 대학 지원 시 플러스 요인이 될 수 있도록 관리합니다. 이 외에도 TOEFL, SAT, ACT시험에 언제 응시할지, 대학입학 원서 작성을 위해 준비해 두어야 할 것은 무엇인지를 개별적으로 안내합니다.

대학 입학 지원서를 작성해야 하는 12학년들은 원서를 작성하는 방법, 원서 접수 전략 등과 관련해 Counselor 선생님에게 개별 상담을 받을 수 있습니다. Counselor 선생님들은 이 외에도 학생과 지원 대학 사이의 커뮤니케이션이 원활하게 진행될 수 있도록 지원하기도 합니다. 내년 봄학기 졸업을 앞두고 있는 학생들은 미국대학원서 관리 업체인 Naviance에 방문해 다양한 정보를 얻을 수 있습니다. 또한 학생들은 Counseling Office 선생님들의 도움을 받아 대학원서 접수 시 제출해야 하는 Letter of Recommendation, transcript 등을 Naviance에 제출해야 합니다.
현재 SSI를 졸업한 학생들은 미국 유명 주, 사립대에서 자신의 꿈을 마음껏 펼치고 있습니다. College Counseling Office는 앞으로도 SSI학생들 모두가 자신이 목표하는 대학에 합격할 수 있도록 최선을 다해 지도할 것입니다.[:]
